Embracing Empathy through Experience

As part of their CAS programme, DP students engaged in a thoughtfully designed activity to truly embrace empathy. A week prior to their visit, students participated in a blindfolded experience on campus, where they had breakfast using cutlery without sight. This activity helped them personally experience the challenges faced by individuals with visual impairment, fostering understanding beyond theory.

Building on this learning, the students visited a Blind School in Aluva, where they shared snacks, played games, and interacted warmly with the students. They were also introduced to various assistive tools used by visually challenged learners in their daily academic life. The visit helped students move from sympathy to genuine empathy, as they connected through shared experiences, interaction, and reflection.

This CAS journey highlighted the importance of awareness, inclusivity, and compassion—key values of the IB Learner Profile.
